The AbenaOye Foundation was created with a clear mission, to empower girls and women across Ghana through technology education, mentorship, and innovative agri-tech solutions. At its heart, the Foundation is inspired by the legacies of two remarkable women, Elizabeth, the grandmother of the founder, and Diana, her mother. Their resilience and vision fuel our commitment to close the gender gap in technology and agriculture while promoting leadership and economic freedom.
Our Core Initiatives
The work of the Foundation is built on four main pillars, each designed to meet the unique needs of women and girls in Ghana.
1. Training Girls and Women in Tech.
We provide both foundational and advanced digital skills to prepare women for in-demand careers. Our training areas include cybersecurity, business analytics, and software development. At the center of this effort is The Kwadie Club, our platform for practical training and mentorship in schools and universities.
2. Tech Education for Rural and Underserved.
CommunitiesBridging the digital divide is essential. Through mobile learning hubs and tech labs, we ensure that girls and women in rural areas gain access to quality education and digital tools. Our goal is to open doors for those who would otherwise be left out of the opportunities the digital economy provides.
3. Bridging Agriculture and Technology for Women Farmers.
Agriculture remains a key livelihood for women in Ghana, yet many are excluded from modern tools and practices. We are working with partners to introduce cost effective agri-tech solutions such as farm management software, IoT tools, and AI driven analytics. Alongside this, we provide financial literacy training and access to digital financial tools to strengthen economic independence.
4. Mentorship for Girls and Women.
We believe mentorship is transformative. Our structured programs connect women at different stages of their careers, from entry level to senior leadership, offering guidance, confidence, and resilience. These mentorship spaces also create opportunities for peer learning and networking.
Our Phased Plan
To ensure sustainability and impact, the Foundation follows a phased approach. In the short term, we are piloting The Kwadie Club in selected schools, running agri-tech and mentorship pilots, and conducting research into the specific needs of rural women. Over the medium term, we will expand to universities, scale rural outreach, and grow mentorship programs into workplaces. Long term, we envision institutionalizing The Kwadie Club within Ghana’s educational system and advocating for tech education to become part of the national curriculum.
Why This Matters
The challenges facing girls and women in Ghana are systemic, but they are not insurmountable. With the right support, women can become leaders in technology, innovators in agriculture, and change makers in their communities. By providing free education, mentorship, and access to tools, we are not only bridging gaps but also creating a model for lasting change that can be replicated globally.
